PROGRAM TITLE:

"Renewable energy resources-alternative forms of energy. The case of Rhodes "

 

SUMMARY OF PROGRAM

Objectives:

  1. Having as starting line a problem that occupies intensely the Rhodian point of view. That is of the making of the final decision on the foundation of a new factory of production of electric energy in Southern Rhodes, (with the condition that the specifications for the protection of the environment will be under observations, because the existing steam electric Station in Soroni at consent of all of (residents, Municipality of Butterflies, municipal Community apartment of Theologian, that it is already observed to be suffering from the pollution in the environment.
  2. We examine: the forms of energy the positive and negative elements that result from the use of each form (the pollution that it is caused by them).
  3. We seek/we examine the cases of renewable forms of energy that can be used or are already used in the island of Rhodes.
  4. We are searching how each of us can contribute in the saving of energy.
 

Activities:

  1. A visit on the premises in the existing factory of the NATIONAL ELECTRICAL COMPANY - discussion with experts, representatives of institutions, Local Self-government and environmental organizations for the problems that were caused by the operation of the existing factory.
  2. Acquaintance with cases of utilization of alternative forms of energy in the island.
  3. Visit in the aeolian park at Attavirou, visits in shops that trade solar thermal accumulators (their study of operation, search of use of phtovoltaic systems in Rhodes.
  4. Visit in the Folklore museum of the island for recording of traditional/older ways of production of energy before the 20th century. Comparison with modern standards.
 

Work:

  1. A research with questionnaires to the students of the school for the ways of saving energy (at home, in the school)
  2. Briefing of citizens on the ways of saving energy and the use of renewable energy resources on the Day of the protection of the consumer (March 2005)
  3. Study of way of operation with the use solar bulbs and a likely decision on the placement of these in the courtyard of our school for saving energy
  4. Briefing of school community with articles in the school newspaper on the activities of our environmental team.
